Great fit has long been – and forever will be – the key to impeccable style. If you’ve learnt anything from reading our blog posts, this should be it.
Slim and tailored has become the default fit adopted by the menswear industry in recent years. Designers have made many ill-fated attempts to push, reintroduce and re-establish a slightly fuller cut, but to no avail (as yet anyway).
The sophisticated, continental aesthetic that has defined men’s style of late, particularly in the realm of #menswear, marries well with this streamlined ideal. Our collective penchant for blazers and double-monks has so far kept the cruel cycle of fashion away, helping cement a more refined and elegant approach to style.
This year we’ve noticed a gradual move towards trends that are in many ways the complete antithesis of the clean and fitted silhouette that we’ve all religiously embraced. Oversized and longline garments are having a moment, in an effort to challenge the style status quo and make a case for the anti-fit. And so far, it’s proving quite convincing…
So with this post I decided to share an outfit that follows this latest trend and it’s no rocket science!
Here I put together a look with a beige pullover hoodie by Only&Sons and paired it with my pair of black ripped denims.
Things to remember while trying the oversized trend:
- This is a strictly casual look. Don’t try to incorporate long length tees or shirts into a formal or smart-casual ensemble. Classic cuts should be preferred when dressing up, as opposed to this more contemporary, fashion-forward silhouette. Sometimes it really is better to ignore fashion altogether and side with timeless style.
- Don’t oversize everything. Long length and oversized tops work best when paired with slim or skinny legwear to create a contrast. Oversizing every part of your outfit puts you on a fast track back to the 1990s, and not in a good way.
- Simplicity is key. A side zip or scoop neck should be the only form of detailing that appears on your tall tee. Skip the baroque patterns and extravagant typography that will undoubtedly be applied to many items in an effort to appear ‘street’. Stick to plain colours and let the length make the statement – there’s no need to overcomplicate things.
Wear with confidence.
- We wax lyrical about how crucial confidence is to good style, but this applies doubly when we’re talking about statement pieces – and oversized clothing is definitely a statement. If you’re going to second guess your wardrobe choice or be constantly pulling the hemline up so that the top doesn’t look as long, then this absolutely isn’t a trend for you.
The anti-fit trend isn’t going to appeal to everyone. It’s the complete opposite to everything we’ve ever taught you, and that’s likely to put many off.
That being said, if you’re looking for a stand-out piece or a way to revive your off-duty wear this autumn/winter then this could well be it.
But what are your thoughts on the anti-fit trend – is it something you’ll be trying out this season? Or is it totally against everything you know and love about modern menswear?
7 style tips to look slimmer instantly !
We’re always reminded of the importance of a having a summer body. As if instagram posts full of slicked-up six packs weren’t shaming enough.
And it’s not surprising many of us are miles from the perfect beach body-ready when we couldn’t be bothered to pay for gym membership, let alone spend hours getting to be buddies with the ‘4 core-building sets crucial for awesome abs’ (whatever that means).
But there’s a vast difference between not bothering and not caring. We’ve got nothing but respect for the man who’s cool with de-shirting regardless of present company – but, for the rest of us, how we look both in and out of our clothes is still a top concern.
While we can’t compete with a Groupon voucher for liposuction, we can share the wardrobe tricks to trim the fat. Here’s the skinny.
Back To Black
Black is slimming. You’ve heard it a million times before, and that’s because it’s true.
Yes, believe it or not, your girlfriend’s latest issue of Vogue wasn’t wrong: all-black ensembles zap the fat. But why is that exactly? Because it hides all the shadows cast by your wobbly bits – if there’s no colour, there’s no contrast.
Just make sure your get-up is all the same saturated shade of black throughout: dull, washed out jeans aren’t only scruffy, they won’t hide that spare tyre either.
Vertical lines are the best way to camouflage the pounds. Stripes, zips and pockets that run vertically draw the eye up and down, helping to create an optical illusion that makes the body appear elongated – and instantly lowers your BMI.
By the same token, steer clear of horizontal lines, which not only make you look larger, but stump your height too. (Otherwise known as the Danny DeVito effect.)
By using your clippers to carefully angle your hairline and beard, you can create a jawline you never thought existed. To slim your mug down, leave hair around the chin longer, clippering hair around the cheekbones and close to the ear shorter.
Exercise caution though: if you’re not totally confident in your clippering skills, bow out and head to your barber.
‘V’ will help you
V-neck jumpers may not be the coolest move, but they boast some benefits: they’re classic, versatile and, most importantly, slimming.
Unlike a crew neck, which has a round shape that only enhances roundness of face, a mid-plunge V-neck jumper offers diagonal lines that help lengthen your face and upper body when layered with wardrobe basics.
But there are rules to follow. Make sure you wear a comfortable yet roomy fit that allows your body to breathe, and never, ever tuck your jumper into your jeans – outlining your belly will only enlarge it.
[Pro Tip: The same slimming/elongating effect can also be achieved with V-neck tees (obviously), as well as polo shirts and Henley tops with a couple of buttons left undone.]
Discard Prints, Shed Pounds
Vibrant prints and patterns add volume to a body. Which is fine if you’re a runway model, less so if you’re fresh from a fast food joint.
Instead, opt for block-colour pieces in neutral shades like black, grey, khaki green.
Why is it that some men, despite being a healthy size, still look plump in their outfits?
The answer is that many don’t understand the clothes that work for them. What complements a 215-pound wrestling prop won’t be the same as what’s best suited to a guy with a frame made for basketball.
By identifying your natural build and learning what does and doesn’t work, you can quickly dress your way to a more dapper outcome.
Way, Shape And Form
Yes, it may seem drastic, but shapewear is making big moves.
The shapewear range from German brand Item M6 is designed to sit underneath shirts to create the illusion of a toned six pack. All without the expense of a personal trainer. It’s still quite a niche move but if you truly care about your silhouette yet remain gymphobic, this could help in instantly shedding inches.
Most people gauge whether the end of monsoon has arrived by the bite in the air or the amount of leaves on the pavement, but I always know it’s here when a raft of brand new fragrances land on my desk for review.

There are hundreds of great men’s fragrances out there, but truly classic ones are an altogether rarer breed. Among all the amazing eaus there are probably fewer than fifty that have survived fads and fashions to achieve iconic status and meet men’s, rather exacting, demands.
Men often judge fragrances in the way they do cars, they want sophistication but demand reliability and performance too. And while fancy flacons and big budget marketing campaigns may make an impact on us, ultimately, a scent survives because men – and women – keep coming back for another sniff.
So whether you’re a fragrance newbie looking for your first signature scent, a perfume junkie wanting to complete your collection or a significant other in search of a fail-safe gift for the man in your life, you couldn’t go wrong with one from the collection by ‘All Good Scents’
Shirts as we all know it, are a timeless and essential part of any man’s wardrobe. Before we start, I’d like to go on record saying that I am 100 per cent a shirt man. Some guys prefer t-shirts, some guys (God forbid) prefer vests, but when it comes to my own personal preference, I just don’t feel complete without a shirt on.
If you’re a regular reader of my articles, you will know that I’m a huge fan of simple, classic and versatile pieces of menswear; the type of clothing that forms the foundation of any successful capsule wardrobe and can be mixed and matched together to produce a wide variety of timeless looks. For those just starting out on their journey to becoming a well dressed man, this approach will ensure you look always appear stylish, no matter what the occasion or scenario.
‘Indian Threads’, a hugely promising homegrown Indian shirt brand, aims at doing just that and helping you build a wardrobe that consists of a shirt for every occasion. Indian Threads shirts are hand crafted at their state of the art facility in Indore. The skilled operators use single needle construction to ensure clean finishing and durable seams. Collars are fused with high quality interlining to achieve a fine balance between volume and pliability. Much attention is paid to both, the provenance of their raw materials and craftsmanship.
So we decided to go through their entire collection and find 3 versatile pieces that we personally would recommend. Below are the 3 looks we put together with 3 of their best shirts.
Here, I have chosen a black shirt with subtle white ditsy detailing. Personally, I love the ditsy trend. The print just amps up the whole look. Perfect for parties and late night events, this shirt definitely will definitely make its presence felt.
The second shirt we picked is a blue printed shirt with an interesting panel. Looks dynamic and would be perfect for lunches and semi-formal settings. We teamed it up with black trousers, they would also look great with khaki chinos or white denims.
This one is my personal favourite of the lot. The dark royal blue looks extremely suave and the subtle white detailing adds a corporate vibe to the whole outfit.
Perfect for any work setting, this shirt would provide a solid first impression in any scenario.

For most of my life, I’ve been going to unisex salons that reek of mousse and perms. Every single time i visited those salons, i always left with a haircut that could be called passable at best. On top of that, i’d always feel out of place. I’d just walk in, sit there silently, while the person who cut my hair, handed me my share of mediocrity for the remainder of the month for me to live with.
So the monsoon has been here for quite a while and hence me and a couple of friends chose to make a quick escapade to good old’ Khandala (a hill station near Mumbai) whilst we could.
The drive from Mumbai to Khandala is surreal to say the least. There is something hypnotic about the majestic valleys and beautiful ghats.
Full brogues or wingtips have always been my personal favourites amongst the plethora of various styles of brogues available in the market. Its just the beautiful wing shaped perforations that transform an ordinary pair of shoes into a work of art.
